For a six-digit HEX color, read the code as three pairs: red, green and blue. Convert each hexadecimal pair to a decimal value between 0 and 255. For example, #245BE8 becomes RGB 36, 91, 232. To go from RGB to HEX, write each channel as a two-digit hexadecimal number and join the three pairs after #.
Convert a code in the browser
Choose the input format
Open the Converter tab and select HEX or RGB. The selected format tells the tool how to interpret the value you enter.
Enter a supported value
For HEX, use three or six hexadecimal digits, with or without #. For RGB, enter three comma-separated whole numbers between 0 and 255, such as 36, 91, 232.
Convert and check the swatch
Select the convert arrow. The output shows the corresponding values and a swatch. Invalid or out-of-range input produces an error rather than silently changing your numbers.
Copy the needed notation
Copy HEX for a field that asks for a # code, or RGB for a field that takes three channel values. The digital color has not become a different physical measurement.
Pick a color or enter a code in the iPhone app
Open Color converter in Color Identifier. Choose a color with the system color picker, or enter the supported source values. Use the conversion control to inspect the other available values, including HEX, RGB and CMYK.
The visual picker is useful when you are exploring a shade rather than starting with a code. Numerical input is convenient when you already have values from a project. The browser converter is a separate free tool with its own input formats and limits.
sRGB and Adobe RGB options in Color Identifier
The iPhone RGB selector includes Classic sRGB, Classic Adobe RGB, Effect sRGB, Effect Adobe RGB, RDS+SRGB and RDS+ Adobe RGB. These are the option labels in the app; Classic, Effect and RDS+ are not additional universal RGB color spaces.
Keep track of the selected option when passing a color reference to someone else. Copying three channel values does not embed a color profile or convert an entire document. The free browser tool does not expose these app-specific options or provide an ICC-managed conversion workflow.
Copy a color code and paste it into another app
Use the copy button beside the required HEX, RGB or CMYK value in the iPhone converter. Open the receiving app, select its color-value field and paste the copied text. This avoids retyping the code when you move between your phone’s tools.
Choose the notation that the destination accepts: a HEX field and separate RGB channel fields can require different formatting. Copying is a clipboard action; it does not automatically update another app or guarantee that every destination accepts the same text. A copied code also does not carry an embedded color profile.
Worked example: #245BE8
Split 245BE8 into 24, 5B and E8. In hexadecimal, the first digit counts sixteens and the second counts ones. A through F stand for the values 10 through 15.
The red pair 24 is 2 × 16 + 4 = 36. The green pair 5B is 5 × 16 + 11 = 91. The blue pair E8 is 14 × 16 + 8 = 232. The result is RGB 36, 91, 232.
What happens to a three-digit HEX code?
Expand each digit before converting. The shorthand #F80 becomes #FF8800, which is RGB 255, 136, 0. The zero is a complete channel digit, not a missing value.
CSS also defines four- and eight-digit forms that include transparency. This browser converter accepts only the three- and six-digit forms; it does not accept alpha values or an Android-style packed integer. Use an appropriate transparency workflow if alpha is part of your source.
Why a correct code may look different elsewhere
A notation change is different from a color-profile conversion. HEX and RGB values correspond directly when they describe the same RGB space. A receiving document or display can still interpret or show a color differently if its color management differs.
Keep the source profile with professional artwork. If you are sampling a photograph of a real object, a correct HEX conversion still represents the recorded photo, including lighting and camera processing. It does not certify the object’s physical shade.
How to use Color Identifier for this task
- Open Color converter in Color Identifier on your iPhone.
- Pick a color or enter its source values; select the RGB option when relevant.
- Convert and tap Copy beside the HEX, RGB or CMYK value you need.
- Switch to your design or editing app and paste into a compatible color-value field.
Pick it. Convert it. Paste it.
Keep Color Identifier on your iPhone to choose colors and copy their codes into your next project. For a quick one-time conversion, use the free browser tool.
The browser tools are free. Mobile features, limits and purchases depend on the current app and platform.
Questions about HEX to RGB converter
Can I copy a color code into another app?
Yes. Copy the required value in Color Identifier, switch apps and paste into a compatible color input. Check that the destination accepts that notation and format.
Does the iPhone converter offer Adobe RGB?
Yes. Its RGB options include sRGB and Adobe RGB variants labelled Classic, Effect and RDS+. These app options are separate from the free browser converter; copying a code does not embed a profile.
Does this converter accept an eight-digit HEX code?
No. The current browser converter accepts three- and six-digit HEX without alpha. An eight-digit CSS value includes transparency and needs separate handling.
Why is RGB 256, 0, 0 rejected?
Each accepted channel must be a whole number from 0 to 255. A value of 256 is outside that input range.
Do I need a different tool for RGB to HEX?
No. Use the same Converter tab and select RGB as the input format. The HEX output updates after a valid conversion.
