Enter a valid RGB or HEX value in the free Converter tab to see approximate CMYK percentages. This mathematical preview is useful for reference, but it is not a printer-profile conversion. For production artwork, follow the printer’s required color profile and proofing process because ink, paper and output conditions affect the result.
Get a reference conversion
Keep the original RGB value
Record the original code or preserve a copy of the source artwork. That lets you return to the digital reference instead of converting it back and forth repeatedly.
Enter RGB or HEX
Choose the matching input format in the Converter tab. RGB uses three whole numbers from 0 to 255; HEX accepts three or six digits.
Read the approximate percentages
Read cyan, magenta, yellow and black from the CMYK row. These percentages come from the tool’s simple mathematical model, without a printer, ink or paper profile.
Prepare the actual job separately
Ask the print provider how to deliver the artwork. Use the required output profile and check an appropriate proof before committing a color-critical job.
A simple example you can check
In this tool, RGB 255, 0, 0 produces CMYK 0, 100, 100, 0. RGB 0, 0, 0 produces 0, 0, 0, 100. These are reference percentages from the browser model, not a recommended press recipe.
A color-managed application can produce different CMYK numbers for the same RGB source because it is targeting a particular output condition. A difference from the web preview is not, by itself, evidence that the profile-based result is wrong.
Why the print profile matters
A profile helps describe the output behavior of a particular printing condition. RGB light and CMYK inks do not cover the same range of colors, so some bright screen colors cannot be reproduced unchanged in a print process.
The receiving printer, inks and paper determine which output condition matters. Use the specification for that job instead of treating a generic CMYK number as a universal physical color. A proof gives you information a screen preview alone cannot provide.
Do not confuse a color value with a converted file
This browser tool converts the notation for one selected color. It does not convert an entire image file to a CMYK document, embed an ICC profile or produce press-ready artwork.
It also does not identify a spot ink or a paint formula. Use it for quick reference and understanding, then return to the original artwork and the provider’s workflow for the final output.
How to use Color Identifier for this task
- Open the color converter in Color Identifier on your phone.
- Pick a source color or enter the supported values.
- Convert and copy the CMYK reference with its copy control.
- Paste into a compatible field in the receiving app, then follow the printer’s required profile and proofing workflow for final artwork.
Keep the reference close. Proof the actual job.
Use Color Identifier to inspect and collect color values on your phone, without treating a reference conversion as a print guarantee.
The browser tools are free. Mobile features, limits and purchases depend on the current app and platform.
Questions about RGB to CMYK converter
Can I start with a HEX code instead of RGB?
Yes. Select HEX in the browser converter and enter a supported value. The output includes an approximate CMYK row.
Does the tool turn my image into a CMYK print file?
No. It returns values for one color. Converting an image document and preparing it for a press requires a separate color-managed workflow.
Will these percentages guarantee a matching printed swatch?
No. The web result is unprofiled and approximate. Printing conditions and the required output profile determine the actual reproduction.
